Replit’s CEO announces the platform will now rely on OpenAI models, citing performance advantages at TechCrunch Disrupt.
At TechCrunch Disrupt, Replit co‑founder and CEO Amjad Masad revealed that the company has ended its partnership with Anthropic and will default to OpenAI for its AI coding platform. The move follows internal benchmarks that showed OpenAI’s models delivering higher accuracy and faster response times for code generation tasks.
Masad explained that the switch will allow Replit to integrate newer model releases more seamlessly, giving developers access to the latest advancements without changing editors. Existing Replit AI subscribers will receive the upgrade automatically, while new users will experience the OpenAI‑powered assistant from day one.
The announcement underscores the competitive pressure among AI coding assistants, as platforms like JetBrains AI Assistant also expand their offerings. Replit’s decision may set a precedent for other developer tools evaluating the trade‑offs between model providers.
